Beverly Boyd, the Prothonotary, is an elected officer of the Adams County Court of Common Pleas. She is elected by the people of Adams County and commissioned by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The Prothonotary’s mandates and responsibilities are derived from the Pennsylvania Statute 42 Pa. C.S.A. §2736 and §2737. The Adams County Prothonotary’s office strives to deliver dignified, respectful, efficient service to all members of the community and to accurately and properly record, maintain and preserve the court records. The Prothonotary is statutorily responsible for filing, paper flow and record management for the Adams County Civil Court system. The following are examples of some of the types of matters handled by this office: civil suits, Magisterial District Justice civil appeals, license suspension appeals, administrative agency appeals, condemnation and eminent domain proceedings, judgments and liens (mechanics, municipal, county, state and federal), change of name, administers oaths and affirmations, family court matters such as divorce, custody, support and protection from abuse. The Prothonotary affixes and attests the seal of the court to all the certifications and exemplifications of all documents and records pertaining to the business of the Court. The Prothonotary is also an Acceptance Agency for passport applications.
